Seaguar is creating a whole new way to fish in heavy cover with the introduction of the Weed-Waster Fluorocarbon mainline.

New Seaguar Weed-Waster is a fluorocarbon line extruded with appendages that come off the line at right angles so that when it is retrieved, the appendages rotate and cut vegetation. “This is a one-of-a-kind, patent-pending technology created by our team of research scientists,” said Gerry Benedicto, Seaguar General Manager. “It enables anglers to fish crankbaits and other open-hook lures in and around the kind of cover that holds the majority of big fish,” added Benedicto.

The genesis behind this new fishing line comes from a typical, everyday lawn and garden tool—the weed eater. “The concept started in the backyard of our senior R&D manager,” commented Benedicto. “He ran out of string for his weed eater and substituted some Seaguar fluorocarbon fishing line to finish the job.” The strength and abrasion-resistant advantages of Seaguar fluorocarbon lines are well documented. Using it on a weed eater showed how easy it could cut through weeds and tall grass. “We had prototypes to test with our pros in a few weeks and the feedback was so positive, we began commercialization immediately,” Benedicto noted.

The importance of cover, particularly weeds, can’t be understated when it comes to locating fish. Weeds provide many different species of fish with shelter, oxygen, ambush points, and most importantly food. It’s no secret that weeds hold fish and that’s why so many smart anglers search for the first green weeds in the spring and camp out on the last of the green weeds in the fall. Weeds are a multi-species bonanza so once you locate productive-looking weeds, you’ll often find bass, walleye, northern, musky, and panfish anglers fishing side-by-side.

Over time, many inventive anglers and lure manufacturers have created techniques and baits to fish weed cover. From Texas-rigged plastic baits to flipping jigs and weedless frogs, there are options to target fish hiding in the thick cover. But this does require a different approach and different gear than what’s employed for open-water fishing.

Now anglers using Seaguar Weed-Waster can transition from open water to weed cover without changing gear. In water, the appendages on the Seaguar Weed-Waster line extend outward and when retrieved rotate to cut right through the weeds. This allows any lure to freely follow in the open space created from the line. The faster the retrieval the more effective the cutting power. What’s more, in open water, the appendages create bubbles that serve to attract and entice game fish into an aggressive feeding mode.

Seaguar Weed-Waster Fluoro will be available in line tests of 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 65 lbs, on 200-yard spools. One cast and you’ll quickly see that when it comes to fishing weeds, Seaguar is Always The Best!
